No wonder he’s losing

The president was in up state New York this morning for yet another scripted Social Security event for loyal sycophants. He took a moment to explain the political problem with privatization as he sees it.

“I fully recognize some in Washington, you know, don’t particularly want to address this issue,” Bush said in an auditorium at Greece Athena Middle and High School. “I recognize some of them say, ‘Well, this is, this is a partisan thing. You know, we don’t want to make one party look good at the expense of another.'” (emphasis added)

Now, I realize that Bush has limited experience in government, but seriously, when was the last time he met a politician in Washington who was worried about making one party look good at the expense of another? Bush has heard some people say this? OK, Mr. President, name one. In fact, talk to Karl Rove and the rest of your staff and ask if any of them are concerned with making Republicans look good at the expense of Democrats.

Bush is clearly confused. Indeed, if this is the president’s rationalization for why his privatization scheme is failing so badly, the entire debacle is starting to make some sense.

It’s a shame Bush’s bubble shields him from reality-based information. It might help him understand why things are going so poorly for him.

Maybe if our president started reading the newspapers, he might begin to figure our why his numbers are dropping. People get annoyed when they can’t pay their bills, when their voices are discounted and ignored, when their treasury is plundered for an optional war and expensive tax cuts, and when the President of the United States has brought shame on our whole nation because of the lies he has told. The so called town meetings are a sham and waste of the public money, and everyone knows that, especially the people who read the papers.

  • The two teenagers they interviewed this morning on the radio (who were part of the select audience invited to attend) both admitted that they didn’t care about or understand Social Security. The first was interested in asking about increasing library funding. The second was worried about the draft.

    Talk about a disconnect.

  • “Bush is clearly confused.”

Someone needs to give the man a another copy of “My Pet Goat” to read to these groups.

It would be more coherent, more entertaining and the gatherings would be mercifully short.

It’s like we’re providing tax dollars to this charade just for the purpose of giving Bush some activity to keep him busy until ’08. This guy has been so expensive in so many different ways. He’s cost pretty much everybody and everything he’s ever come in contact with. He’s a prop, a president doll and his string has been pulled too many times.

“George, Karl says it’s time to go out and ride your bike.”

    Dang.

  • Actually, he was referring to his pals on the Democratic side of the aisle.
I mean, the Republicans are having such a tough spring, after all. And of
course President Bush is sensitive to the concerns of the Democrats, right?

  • I think confused is an understatement, I`m getting a little tired of my tax dollars going in Air Force ONE so this cowboy can keep giving his little scripted speech to the invitation only crowd.Someone should take him up on the wood offer he made us during the debates,at least we would have the wood!
