On Senate floor, Santorum compares Dems to Nazis

Unfortunately, the rumors are true. Here’s the transcript of what Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum said, just a couple of hours ago, on the Senate floor, during the debate over the nuclear option:

“Some are suggesting we’re trying to change the law, we’re trying to break the rules. Remarkable. Remarkable hubris.

“I mean, imagine. The rule has been in place for 214 years that this is the way we confirm judges. Broken by the other side two years ago, and the audacity of some members to stand up and say, ‘How dare you break this rule?’

“It’s the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942: ‘I’m in Paris. How dare you invade me? How dare you bomb my city? It’s mine.'”

The man is clearly not well. It’s time for him to go.

It was bad enough when Bill Frist suggested yesterday that Dems want to “assassinate” Bush nominees, but Santorum’s Hitler analogy suggests Republicans have really lost all sense of perspective and decency.

The floor is now open for guesses on how soon Santorum will claim he’s been taken out of context.

Update: As is always the case, C&L has the video.

The Man On Dog should resign!! Do us a favor…just do it.

  • God, I am so embarrassed that this guy represents my state. Agghhhh, how can we have someone like Arlen Spector on one hand and this twit on the other. Aghhhhhhhhhh

  • “Remarkable. Remarkable hubris. For the democrats to claim that I compared them to Adolf Hitler yesterday is like Joseph Stalin saying…..”

I now officially feel disgusted for belonging in the same species as these turds.

  • These guys are like cats playing with catnip.

They have been wanting to say stuff like this for so long and the current circumstances are leading them to believe that they can do so without repercussion.

These are very inflammatory statements and they are speaking this stuff on the floor of the U.S. Senate. We are hearing voices let off the leash. They don’t seem to be looking over their shoulders at all. There’s a lot of pushing the edge of the envelope going on here. They will see what the limits of acceptance are regarding this language and they will stop only when they feel threatened by very negative public reaction.

I’m hearing of negative polls for the republicans but I’m not getting a real sense of public outrage, which would be completely justified. It’s territory marking time. The republicans are in the alpha position. They want to make that clear and they won’t want to give that position up. Humiliation, insult and dominance are the tools of the alpha position. They know that and intend to pursue that path.

  • Bob Casey Jr is poised to beat Santorum. We have to work hard to get the vote out, but I think Man on Dog is going to the doghouse.
In Casey’s last election to Auditor General he received the highest vote ever for a candidate in PA. Look forward to that ray of sunshine. BTW, why is he called Man on Dog?

  • Santorum rambled on and made some very good points for supporting the Dems position. Actually quite a few of the Rethugs did as well. Too funny.

  • These guys are so out of touch, it’s just unbelievable. How can Rick Santorum talk about being honorable and call the democrats cheaters with a straight face? I grew up in PA and remember when he was first running for public office, it was discovered that he had defaulted on his college loans, but then quickly started paying them back once he realized this could hurt his political ambitions! And he talks about cheaters! I am sure that Bob Casey can beat him in 2006..

  • Teresa Heintz Kerry once referred to Santorum as “Forrest Gump with attitude.” Gump may have been slow but he was a mostly admirable charachter. Santorum, on the other hand, is just slow.
