Josh Marshall and Atrios are highlighting one of the more disgusting GOP rants I’ve seen in a while.
As a radio station in Oklahoma explained:
Republican Congressman Tom Cole claims a vote against the re-election of President Bush is like supporting Adolph Hitler during World War Two. It’s what he said recently before a meeting of Canadian County Republicans.
U.S. Representative Tom Cole might have stirred up Democrats by saying a vote against the re-election of President Bush is like supporting Adolph Hitler during World War Two. Or supporting Osama bin Laden now. “If George Bush loses the election, Osama bin Laden wins the election.”
It’s great to hear that the Republicans are intent on running an honorable, issue-driven campaign that appeals to the public’s sense of integrity and character.
As Marshall put it, “Presumably, we need to vote for President Bush because otherwise we’d be saddled with those hateful, hating, hating, hating Democrats who have no understanding of what civility in politics is all about.” Exactly.
Maybe the GOP can remind us all again about how the Dems are running a campaign based on “anger” and “bitterness,” while the Republicans have embraced a positive message.
