Robertson says Ariel Sharon’s illness is punishment from God

Wow.

The Rev. Pat Robertson said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing the Land of Israel. Robertson, speaking on the “700 Club” on Thursday, suggested Sharon, who is currently in an induced coma, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated by an Israeli extremist in 1995, were being treated with enmity by God for dividing Israel.

“He was dividing God’s land,” Robertson said. “And I would say, Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations or the United States of America. God says, ‘This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.'”

Can’t you just feel the Christian love? A prime minister and close ally of the United States is in critical condition and this TV preacher clown, instead of praying for a speedy recovery, tells his national television audience that God is punishing Sharon. What’s more, Robertson exploits the illness to insist that God shares his foreign policy worldview for the Middle East. (thanks to bubba for the tip)

Robertson sure has been on a roll lately, hasn’t he? He’s sending God after Dover, Pa. over intelligent design; he’s threatened Republican senators over Harriet Miers; he’s told CNN that earthquakes in Pakistan may be a sign of the end times; and he’s called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez — all in just the last few months.

And let’s also not forget, this crazed TV preacher also happens to be a close ally of powerful GOP officials. After all, George W. Bush has appeared at two Robertson-hosted Christian Coalition events and the president even met with Robertson in early 2003 to discuss the war in Iraq. For that matter, tune into the 700 Club on any given day and you’ll see high-ranking officials from the Bush administration chatting about today’s biggest issues.

Indeed, after Tom DeLay was forced from his leadership post, whom did he immediately turn to? Who else? Pat Robertson.

Robertson isn’t some guy shouting bizarre ideas from a street corner; he’s a Republican insider, shouting bizarre ideas on national television.

Update: People for the American Way has the video of Robertson’s comments.

Gotta love Pat “Smite ‘Em When They’re Down” Robertson.

He’s fucking crazy. Seriously. And the only bigger asshole than Robertson is the “God” that resides in his head.

Yeah, this little nugget was the first thing I posted about in like three weeks, I just couldn’t help myself…

  • Wow is right. If that is religion I think we might be better without it. What won’t this guy say?!

  • Did Robertson get money from Abramoff, too? One could only wish that his name show up on an indictment somewhere. Anywhere.

  • Wasn’t there an announcement recently that Robertson was going to work with Israeli officials to develop a Biblical theme park in Israel? I wonder how Robertson’s latest outburst of insanity will affect these plans.

If God is punishing Sharon (a fanciful flight of fantasy), it’s not for dividing Israel. It’s for all the blood on his war criminal hands. Ariel Sharon: the Zionist Hermann Goering.

  • Ah, Pat Robertson. Constantly reminding me that free speech means tolerating even the craziest, most off-the-wall bullshit from the fringes of human existence.

The cultists who swallow his tainted drivel are the most convincing argument that the human race is devolving.

  • I wonder what TV “preacher” will say when this venerable old coot meets with unfortunate happenstance? Will it be God’s punishment?

  • Don’t forget he’s also a big supporter of Liberia’s Robert Taylor (sic), a murderous war lord– but a devout Christian

  • “Robertson isn’t some guy shouting bizarre ideas from a street corner…”

Huh ?? He most definetly is.

  • Almost makes me wish I was a believer. I could imagine what God would make of being assigned as this asshole’s personal enforcer.

  • We all need to investigate Robertson’s ties to Abramoff. He’s surely been supporting, like the FOX fake news readers, and maybe even took money for influence pedaling.

Burds of a Feather Flock Together! (Especially around Turd Blossums!)

  • Rocky & Curmudgeon,
I think you guys are on the right track. Robertson’s not a nutcase–he’s just bought. And his rhetoric is not anti-Israel, but actually pro-Israel (that is, pro-hardline Israeli)

Israeli hardliners (and their GOP employees in Congress) are utterly opposed to Israel making any concessions to the Arabs. Sharon would be perceived by these guys as a traitor–like a President here would be if he gave back Texas to the Mexicans. Wouldn’t it be funny if Robertson’s been taking payments from the DC Israeli lobby? That’s where I’d start looking first.

  • I’d love for some ballsy reporter to take a crack at Bush one day in one of his rare post-drivel question and answer sessions, and confront him on why he would associate with such a person. Then when Bush starts babbling on nonsensically as to why, the reporter could come back with a laundry list of the loony’s recent pronouncements, just to show people how out of touch the both of them are.

  • Wow what can we say that this nutjob hasn’t said already. I will be very worried when he and bush start passing out the Kool-aid to everybody.

  • Yes, and apparently God continues to punish the rest of us by not bringing Pat Robertson home to meet his maker. I really wish this buffoon would dry up and blow away. He gives the rest of the human race a bad name.

  • Mr Flibble:

Robertson’s probably been given plenty. His idiotic followers send millions to Israel, I would be really surprised if Pat didn’t get a kickback of some kind.

Jerry Falwell got a Lear Jet in 1979 for carrying water for Israel:

“The 1977 election of Likud Party leader Menachem Begin as prime minister marked a new era in evangelical-Israeli relations. Begin was so pleased with Falwell’s pro-Israel activities that in 1979 he gave the evangelical leader a Lear jet.

  • Thanks Racerx!

All I had was a guess–with what you’ve posted, I’m a lot more confident that what we’re really seeing here is not simply the ignorant ranting of a zealot but a statement calculated to please Robertson’s financial patrons. Thanks, again.

  • Pat is well connected .
He gets direct quotes from God..
He can either dole out protections and blessings or devine wrath.
Sending him money, or not, helps him decide what he will do for you.

    Sounds like Abramoff.

  • With all the hellfire and damnation Pat Robertson tells us God has coming our way. I’ve changed my mind and now support the Star Wars Defense program. We’re gonna need all the protection we can get from things coming in from…up there.

  • I have to say that if Pat Robertson is right, and his is the one true god; then I would rather burn in the fires of hell.

  • Actually Damart, Hermann Goering wasn’t the guy out there impaling people and crowing over corpses. The guys you are looking for are specifically Heydrich (#2 in the SS; assassinated in Prague as the governor) or Himmler (SS leader). Goering spent most of his war years raiding European museums and visiting art dealers.

  • It’s amazing to me that even the Anti-Christ has free speech we all know that this country is being run by Christian coalitions who preach how good God is but call for the horrible suffering He’ll cause people who are different This so-called man of God , who for some insane reason, people actually sit and watch on t.v.is an embarassment to all Americans and threatens our relationships with other nations. These are very scary times especially when our leader, our elected president Bush, actually calls this man an unofficial advisor. We need to take our country back before these so-called Christians lead us right into Hell

  • If anyone really thinks that a sad old man like Robertson REALLY hold serious credibility within the seats of power of our Government, you need to jump back into your time machine, set it for about 20 years forward and catch up with the rest of us in present times.

  • Robertson spouts crap about his own version of God. But a million old ladies and Bush think he’s credible? What is America coming to…

It doesn’t help that I have a project to do on Sharon, but I have to hear some guy badmouth a world leader, who has probably seen more of the world than he has? May the REAL God smite his ass off the face of the earth.
