Roy Moore, still on the campaign trail

For a guy who isn’t officially campaigning for president, Roy Moore keeps up an usually busy schedule in several key states.

Everyone’s favorite theocrat was in Ohio (20 electoral votes) yesterday, speaking before a packed crowd at the Ashland University Convocation Center. Moore reportedly gave his standard stump speech.

“We think an acknowledgment of God is a violation of church and state when indeed it’s the very purpose of the First Amendment,” Moore said.

Let me get this straight. The First Amendment, which separates religion and government and doesn’t even mention God, was created, Moore believes, to “acknowledge” God. Sure, that makes sense.

He said he is accused of breaking the rule of law because he did not obey a judge who told him to remove the commandments from his courtroom. He maintains he was not breaking any such law because the judge had no right to tell him to do so.

“When a judge puts himself above the rule of law, he becomes a tyrant,” Moore said.

Finally a sentiment that Moore and I share. Too bad he’s missing the irony.
