I noticed that Frederick Maryland was troubled by something he saw on Pat Robertson’s 700 Club, so I decided to check it out for myself.
Before I get into this, I’d like to note that, as a rule, I don’t approve of political name calling. I do my best not to engage in it (much), but sometimes I find it’s necessary when polite language can’t fully capture the sentiment I want to express.
With that in mind, forgive me when I say that Sen. Rick “Man on Dog” Santorum (R-Penn.) is completely nuts. Mad as a hatter.
Santorum was a guest on the 700 Club on Wednesday, talking about the need for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. If you were so inclined, you can watch the segment online; the interview between Robertson and Santorum starts at the 4:31 mark and goes for about seven minutes.
The whole interview was madness on top of madness. It was fascinating, on one level, as I watched and wondered which of these two is crazier.
I’d like to bring your attention, however, to Santorum’s remarks at the 11:24 mark.
[T]he consequence is very clear. Marriage loses its significance. People will stop getting married. Homosexuals will not get married; heterosexuals will stop getting married. And that to me is the real threat to the American family and to the culture generally.
Santorum actually believes that if gay people are permitted to enter into legally-recognized relationships, straight couples will simply stop getting married.
It’s not often we get a rare peek into the mind of a loon. We should savor it.
