Senate races remain interesting

In terms of competitive Senate races, Oklahoma appears to have made former Rep. Tom Coburn (R) a U.S. Senator-elect, despite the fact that he’s stark raving mad. This was a key Dem pick-up opportunity that apparently will not come to fruition. Less than 20% of the precincts are reporting, but the networks are calling the race for Coburn. It’s a shame and it’s proof that all is not quite right in Oklahoma.

In Kentucky, Dan Mongiardo (D) was leading for hours as returns were coming in, but incumbent Sen. Jim Bunning (R), despite his bizarre and erratic behavior for the last few months, has pulled ahead — but not by much. With 92%, Bunning is up by less than 1%. Stay tuned.

Florida’s too-close-to-call, Isakson picked up Zell Miller’s seat (as expected), and Obama might end up with over 80% support, which borders on ridiculous.

With Oklahoma going with Coburn, Dems will need Mongiardo to win if we’re going to have any shot at retaking the majority.

Update: The networks just called South Carolina for DeMint, which means a Dem majority will be pretty much impossible. Sigh.
