Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney regularly appears on Fox News, explaining why conservatives are tough and liberals are not. It’s standard-fare nonsense, hardly worth noticing or getting worked up about.
But my friend smiley wrote in today to note a bizarre comment McInerney made recently that leads to a conclusion McInerney may not like.
Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, an author and terrorism analyst, says al Qaeda could execute a London-type train bombing “within 24” hours in the United States.
“But why attack here,” Gen. McInerney said in an interview, “when you have leftists in America who have aided and abetted the enemy more than Tokyo Rose did in World War II? They don’t need to set off bombs. If they set off bombs, they would silence the shrill of leftists in the United States.”
Let’s look past the pathetic claims about liberal treason, and focus instead on what McInerney is really suggesting.
We’re talking about someone with child-like sophistication, but let’s try to follow the logic anyway: The left whines about the war on terror, which makes the terrorists happy. If the terrorists executed a London-type train-bombing attack in the U.S., the left would stop whining, which would make the terrorists less happy. So, in order to keep leftist treason alive and well, the terrorists, which could attack “within 24 hours,” attack elsewhere. That’s McInerney’s argument.
Taking this to the next logical step, if this right-winger is right, shrill leftists keep Americans safe. Indeed, following McInerney’s logic, liberal treason needs to be kept up, not toned down. If leftists stopped undermining the war on terror, al Qaeda would lose its disincentive and be more inclined to set off bombs.
So, shrill leftists everywhere, I have a simple message for you: keep up the good work. Your nation needs you, and you’re answering the call.
