Takes one to know one

Bill O’Reilly was the featured speaker at the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (NSNC) conference yesterday, where he, I kid you not, complained about opinionated news dissemination.

O’Reilly contended that many newspapers are losing circulation because they’ve allowed the “liberal” ideology of their editorial pages to “bleed into news coverage” — despite, he said, there being a greater number of “traditional conservatives” than liberals in the American population.

Yes, if there’s one thing O’Reilly and his network understand, it’s the importance of keeping a clear distinction between news reporting and opinion journalism.

Pot, kettle, etc.

The only place Billy O is important and relevant to today’s issues is in the canyons of his own mind. Too bad he is constantly pushing people who listen to him over the rim and into his great intellectual abyss. -Kevo

p.s. A true American culture warrior would stand up for habeas corpes, freedom of speech, acceptance of people of difference who also share common cultural traits such as reverence for our Constitution and the rule of law, and a non-stalking of others who don’t share the same ideological confines as him. So much for Billy O – he should go on to be the Irish drunk he is so capable of. -Kevo

  • I love listening to these conservatives whistle past the graveyard as they try to convince listeners that Americans are really conservatives, when every indication is otherwise. O’Reilly should just keep his his head where he put it for safekeeping – where the sun doesn’t shine. What a pathetic fool.

  • Not only that but there’s more liberals than conservatives. He just makes the facts fit his opinions. Says a lot about the group that would have him for a speaker.

  • “Newspapers are dying, and there are two reasons why,” said the Fox News host and Creators Syndicate newspaper columnist. “One reason is the Internet. The other is ideology.” — Oh really, O’Reilly?

The third reason is people instinctively don’t want to destroy more forests than they need to, since everything is now available on screen. But that’s far too progressive a notion to fit into his cadaverous pinhead. Disgusting creep.

  • Even if one agrees with everything O’Lielly says here, is it really appropriate to say to a group of individuals directly to their faces that people “hate” them?

  • The problem with this blog along with all the proverbial liberal adolescent high fives is…Oreilly isn’t a newspaper or necessarily a news man…he has an opinion show on Fox news! He talks about recent news items and he gives HIS opinion on them. It is THAT simple. The NY Times is not supposed to sway a story or tell the reader what they should feel about this or that…a newspaper is SUPPOSED to state the facts only. Period. It isn’t that hard to figure out hepcats. I guess now it’s time for ya’ll to light up the old bowl and waste away in a dream state of helplessness.

  • #6, you mention that O’Lielly has “an opinion show on Fox news.” True….but remember, O Lie’lly has said over and over again on said show that he has no ideological bias regarding the formation of his opinions; however, any casual watcher of his program knows that most of the people he attacks are those on the left, most of the people he defends are those on the right, and, (with the singular exception of his belief that the government should do more to fight global warming) most of his policy belief are firmly in the conservative camp. To state it another way, who is he to lecture people on letting biases seep in where they are not supposed to exist?
Also, he didn’t just attack the NY Times, which you seemed to imply in your post, but newspapers in general.

  • I want to say that Oreilly really has some nerves to say that but then again, the guys has million of viewers when he is on air. Let’s get Geraldo to shut him up for a while.
