Taking a weed whacker to the Bushes

Guest Post by Morbo

With any luck, [tag]President[/tag] [tag]George W. Bush[/tag]’s sagging approval ratings will put an end to the Bush family political dynasty, a reign of mediocrity that, when all is said and done, will have plagued the country for 12 (non-consecutive) years.

A recent poll indicates that [tag]Bush[/tag] II’s problems appear to be affecting his brother [tag]Jeb[/tag] as well. Harris Interactive took a poll asking people to react to three possible [tag]Republican[/tag] presidential [tag]candidates[/tag] and three Democrats. Jeb was the most unpopular of the lot, with 63 percent of respondents saying they would “definitely not” vote for him.

No Democrat was that unpopular. Forty-seven percent said they would not consider voting for Sen. [tag]Hillary Clinton[/tag], and the same number said that about Sen. [tag]John Kerry[/tag]. Forty-eight percent said they would not vote for [tag]Al Gore[/tag].

Jeb has insisted he has no interest in running. I’ve never believed that, if only because a pathological inability to tell the truth seems to run in the Bush family. Whatever his true intentions may be, it’s good to know that daunting numbers like this exist. Perhaps they will persuade him to stay out of the race.

Supposedly, Jeb is the “smart” one. Whether this would make him more or less dangerous than his brother is open to debate. A Bush who combines intelligence with the venality that marks the clan makes me tremble for the nation. On the other hand, one of the things that makes W such a dud is his uncurious nature and willingness to be led by others (who are always evil). A truly smart person is not likely to share these traits.

With any luck, our country will never have to find out if Jeb would be a worse president than George II. If all goes well, he’ll leave public life later this year.

Of course, this does not mean we will be entirely shed of the Bushes. Brother Neil seems content to milk the family connections to make himself rich, and I expect the twins to pursue the same course. However, I continue to worry about George P., one of Jeb’s sons. Now 30, [tag]George P.[/tag] is currently a lawyer in private practice in Dallas and, aside from working on W’s campaigns, has shown no interest in a political career — yet. To me, he looks like the type to pop up in 10 or 15 years, just when we think we’re safe.

If that happens, one thing could save us: George P. apparently likes to stalk women. (See here.) That should give the voters pause — but then again, criminal behavior is no barrier to high office these days. After all, just look at George P.’s uncle.

“a pathological inability to tell the truth seems to run in the Bush family.”

I’m not qualified to judge mental illness, but the Bush Crime Family does exude arrogance unjustified by ability or contribution. From “Hitler’s banker” down to the Regal Moron and beyond, with Babs tossed in for good measure, they seem to believe they deserve power regardless of lack of qualifications or performance in office. The whole family seems to think nothing of selling out America so long it profits themselves and their cronies. I’ve never understood our willingness to take any of them seriously, let alone vote for them.

  • The more I read about the Bushes, the more I wonder.

For me the big fact that bothers me is Great granpappy was the Nazi’s banker.

As the American people are learning yet again, no war is ever costs cheap (in lives, material and wealth.) Money is the grease for the war machine and without, any war will stop.

I was one of many who viewed that they got the Nazi bastards at Nuremburg. I’ve realized that the Allies didn’t go after the turds who gave the Nazis the gold to buy the guns, tanks and planes. I certainly never knew about Prescott Bush’s history before the internet and the more I know, the less I think of the whole family.

I’m sure that the Right Wing Noise Machine will point to the Kennedys and their booze smuggling, but there is no comparison. A whole world was not set afire to fuel someone’s ambitions…

I wonder if it is possible to RICO the Bush Fortune. Just a stupid thought on a Sat morning

  • While I agree with you about the damnable Bushes, I did notice that one of the twins is off to teach school in South America. That is hardly a get-richer-quick scheme.

  • “12 years” is an undercount. Don’t forget that GHWB was Reagan’s Veep, particularly during the second term when the Great Confabulator’s actual managerial and decision-making abilities were, in retrospect, rather questionable.

  • I’ve read that the CNN poll you referred to was in this format: Name the three democrats or the three republicans who you would NOT vote for under any circumstances. I think anyone taking the poll would automatically think of the biggest names out there. He or she would not say, one, Vilsack, two Warner, three. . . I’m not saying this to help Jeb Bush by any means (God forbid!), but I think Gore is on a roll with Democrat voters and independents, and I find this poll just a little skewed?

  • If only we could have escaped with “only” twelve years of suffering the flaming mediocrity that is the Bush Family. Sadly, George II left and George III is going to leave lasting legacy problems that will – I fear – haunt us long after Poppy has gone to his reward and W has re-ensconced himself permanently in Crawford.

  • As a Floridian, I strongly object to any description of Jeb! as “the smart one.” Anyone who has seen his deer in the headlights routine as he speaks to the press as any natural or political disaster approaches will attest to his inability to think on his feet. The best description that I can think of for good ol’ Jeb! is bully. He has arrogantly recalled the legislature multiple times back into session to force them to vote upon legislation that was not finished, i.e. passed, during the regular session, ignored Florida Supreme Court rulings on school vouchers, and signed a special law to keep Terri Schiavo “alive.” The Bush boys remind me more of two year olds throwing tantrums to get what they want than anything else.

It’s all relative. Compared to Jr. he probably is “smart.”
