We all know Bush’s job creation record has been abysmal and that Bush is poised to be the first president in 70 years to experience a net job loss for his presidency. Unemployment is high, millions of other workers have taken worse jobs than they had before Bush took office, and millions more are worried about their precarious future.
What we did not know, until recently, is the Bush campaign’s creative solution to the problem.
A campaign worker for President Bush said Thursday, American workers unhappy with low-quality jobs should find new ones — or pop a Prozac to make themselves feel better.
“Why don’t they get new jobs if they’re unhappy — or go on Prozac?” said Susan Sheybani, an assistant to Bush campaign spokesman Terry Holt.
The aide later said she was kidding, but this is still classic Bush thinking: If you don’t like the president’s handling of the economy, you should be on medication.
Why is it that the mainstream media goes apoplectic when Teresa Heinz Kerry tells some hack to “shove it,” but gaffes like this one go completely unnoticed?
