The Corner’s ‘Man on Dog’ moment

I noticed this morning that Oliver Willis wrote that “National Review’s Kathryn Jean Lopez has a Rick Santorum moment and says the reason a bestiality case happened in Massachusetts is because of gay marriage.”

I thought he was kidding. He wasn’t — The Corner had this post, under a headline that read, “Slippery Slope?”

Just a coincidence that this happened in Massachusetts? Sherborn teen charged with bestiality

(And no I’m not equating men and dogs.)

No, but she was equating gay marriage with bestiality. Santorum made a fool out of himself when he argued that national tolerance for gay relationships might lead to “man on dog” sex, and what Lopez suggested was equally offensive.

Lopez has since apologized, conceding that she showed “very bad judgment.” That’s reassuring, I suppose, but what kind of worldview leads one to see a headline about bestiality and immediately think of gay marriage in Massachusetts?

One that makes me wonder what kind of freaky shit that Jean Lopez likes.

Look at Sen Vitter and his “banned in the MSM” predilection for wearing diapers.

Didn’t someone state that Liberals are open about sex but have vanilla taste while Cons are tight lipped but way more kinky?

  • I’m sure no one has ever tried to pin down the actual numbers, but it does seem to me that heterosexual deviants make up the preponderance of bestiality cases. I’ve never even heard of a case of homosexual bestiality.

    But of course facts never get in the way of a culture warrior, especially when so many of their “best” soldiers turn out to be sexual criminals and deviants.

  • What kills me about these thin edge of the wedge nuts is that they all see this kind of garbage, but they still refuse to see the connection between guns and gun deaths. It’s like a form of group psychosis. Maybe conservatism is just group psychosis.

  • Does the gender of the animal make a difference? Is “man-on-bitch” more acceptable than a man screwing a male dog? If you have sex with a dog of your gender does that make you gay? What about cats? Is having sex with a cat less gay than having sex with a dog? We have to get to the bottom of this. I applaud the right-wing for not being afraid to ask the tough questions.

    I regret the post because it was hit and run and such things do lend themselves to offense and ill will on such personal issues. I’m sorry. It was very bad judgment.

    While I guess this is one tiny step up from the standard BushCo “apology” (I’m sorry if my words were misconstured) why is it that the wingnuts harp about the rudeness of the left, yet none of them could frame a proper apology if you dropped a rabid toy schnauzer down their pants?

    Good point. I’d be willing to bet the stats will show the vast majority of crimes which involve sexual acts without the consent of the other partner are committed by a heterosexual.

    When you look at the percentage of gay/bisexual people in America (approx 10%?) either the rates of such crimes should be a hell of a lot lower or g/l/bs are out perpetrating sex crimes 24/7/365.

    And no, I don’t think a Catholic priest who molests altar boys is gay. I think he is a filthy pervert.

  • Sex is the only thing these people ever seem to think about. There’s little wonder that so many of them turn out to be closet cases or diaper freaks and that they yell so loudly about all matters sexual; they’re talking about themselves.

  • I’d guess that bestiality is more prevalent in the rural, small town red states than it is in Massachusetts. I would try to look up the research but, to be honest, I’d really rather not think about the subject all that much.

    Does the age of the animal matter? What about lamb or puppy molestation?
    Is it rape, since there cannot be a consent on the part of the sheep (or dog), however mature?

  • Wasn’t there some Rep pol in Georgia or Alabama within the last few years talking about how he lost his virginity to a cow. I remember he seemed rather proud of it, and acted as if was perfectly normal. And then he was suprised that other people were appalled by it. I actually even vaguelly remember seeing a video of it, like he said it at some fund raiser. I wonder if he won re-election.

  • Even if one believes that homosexuality is equivalent to bestiality, her comment is still stupid since acts of bestiality have taken place in states that don’t have gay marriage.

  • no one thinks homosexuals attempting to have sex is equivalent to beastiality, but it is the next step, after polygamy, adult incest and pleural marriages.
    Its a slippery slope, when you start legitimizing sexual perversions in culture, where will it end? there are women who have sex with dogs. Will animal-human sex be the next thing they want legalized?! and what about the whole NAMBLA/LGBT thing? and after that pedophilia/pederasty rights?! polygamy? adult incest? NO! stop it now!
