Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) is relatively popular, but state Republicans are already gearing up for a tough race in 2006. Guess who has eyes on the campaign…
Rumble is former Republican U.S. Senate candidate/nightmare Alan Keyes is eyeing a bid for governor.
Let us pray for deliverance.
Keyes, whose religious and political views give moderate GOPers the shakes, is not only back . . . he’s conducting the first meeting of his “Cook County United” gathering of 40 to 50 of Cook County’s best conservative activists in his Loop office tonight!
Don’t miss dinner.
Remember, Illinois Republicans, you asked for this when you brought the guy into your state for the Senate campaign. Like Frankenstein, you created a monster — and now you don’t know what to do with him.
Update: Taegan Goddard has learned that Illinois law mandates that gubernatorial candidates live in the state for at least three years. Unless Illinois’ Republicans want to follow Kentucky’s lead — where the GOP doesn’t care about residency requirements — this means Keyes will have to think of something else to do with his time.
