The party does have a name

By way of Media Bistro, it appears Fox News wants its viewers to know that one party is poised to do well in today’s elections, but the network would prefer not to say which.

chyron

I can understand that Fox News was hesitant — the network’s latest poll showed Dems ahead nationally by 13 points, up from 11 points a week ago — but c’mon. “One party” has a solid lead? Wouldn’t the word “Dems” have fit nicely in the chyron?

One might, just might, get the impression that Fox News prefers one party to the other. A wild assertion, I know.

But wouldn’t “DEMOCRATS THREATEN CONTROL OF AMERICA” boost GOP turnout more than this? Where are the scare tactics? Where are the Rovian talking points?

  • Fox is no better than the Washington Times. Roger Ailes (the bad one) is as much an ideological tyrant as Rev. Sun Moon.

  • They tried typing “Dem. party” but their auto-correct kept coming back with “Cut-and-run gay fag liberal terrorist-loving traitors.”

  • typical strawman tactic. After today, Dems should close ranks—and enthusiastically boycott FAUX News. Stop trying to get their attention. They’re spoiled little bullies; the “Fauntelroys” of the media. Cut them off at the knees, leave them in the dark, and see what their ratings do when even NEWSPAPERS start scooping them….

  • Thanks for the link to Chyron. That’s a good word for the day. Since Chyron refers to “the lower third” it would be a good name for Bush’s base too. 🙂

  • If the night belongs to the Dems, it will be fascinating to watch Fox sputter and spin itself into a Queeg-like paranoid psychosis.

  • Speaking of the WA Times, I got my first look at Tony Blankly on The McLaughlin Report that other night. What a complete a*s.

And of voting, the robo-call incidents, voter intimidation, etc. make me sick. I hope that Dems win big so that the vote can’t be Diebolded. I am worried about that happening in the close races.

And finally, I wish all states would adopt Oregon’s vote-by-mail system. No touch screens without paper trail, no long lines. We’ve had our ballots for two weeks and can fill it out (optiscan) and turn or mail in anytime before 8 tonight (though they must be rec’d by 8 tonight, not just postmarked today).

My 18-year-old just voted for the first time. Way cool.

  • FOXNEWS has gone mad! As far as I can discern Rupert and co. would like us all to salute and pledge allegiance to the United States of Republicans. I wonder if it is lost on these imbeciles that their efforts to create a one-party system is parallel to the Soviet system. -Kevo

  • After what Rupert Murdoch has done to the media in this country it is extremely offensive for this foreigner to be belittling as “very minute” the loss of this country’s troops in a war that he helped create. If it has been a Dem saying that you know how the usual suspects would be all up in arms. The guy should be strung up and his organizations banned.

  • Strange, they had no problem calling Foley a Democrat.

Focks Snooze should just go ahead and re-cast itself as a rival to the Colbert Report. They still wouldn’t be funny but if they’re going to be clowns they might as well go all the way.

  • My wife suggested not saying the name is good, supporters won’t sit back assuming they don’t have to go out into the rain and vote (it’s raining in Northern Virginia).

The polls were crowded when we went to vote at 10:00 am.
