The AP is reporting that the annoying controversy in Georgia over whether to remove the word “evolution” from the state science curriculum appears to be over. Superintendent Kathy Cox has dropped her controversial plan and has agreed to let the word, which she dismissed as a “buzzword” last week, remain.
“I will recommend to the teacher teams that the word ‘evolution’ be put back in the curriculum,” Cox said in a statement.
This is good news, of course, but there’s been no word yet on whether Cox will continue to pursue her agenda of adding other creationist materials to the state curriculum. Of course, now that’s she been humiliated before a national audience, Cox’s plans may carry a little less weight.
