‘This could be viewed as the week the wheels came off’

I’ve often wondered if a tipping point exists for Republicans when it comes to the war. Apparently, we’re not quite there yet.

As of today, Maliki and Bush relations are fraying, the stability of the Iraqi government is shaky, the American public’s patience is gone, and the civil war rages on unabated. Taken together, even Republicans’ confidence is shaken.

“Depending on what happens next,” said a gloomy Republican political operative, “this could be viewed as the week the wheels came off.”

Could be“? As far as the GOP establishment is concerned, the wheels are still on?

The right’s tolerance for chaos and disaster sometimes amazes me.

I’m going to offend Ohioan and mention Pat Buchanan one more time.

Our dear follower Pat, Nixonite era speechwriter, suggested that American troops had to stay in Iraq and continue dying until everybody understood that the war was hopeless.

Considering the disdain that Republican’ts and especially Bushites have for Cassandras (anyone who tells you before hand that it’s a bad idea to roll the Trojan Horse into Illium or to invade Iraq) foresight is clearly not a respected ability. So everybody has to agree I suppose that the war HAS BEEN lost before we can leave, and so many seem unwilling to do that.

So obviously they have to find the point when all is lost before they can say that all is lost. Is this the week they’ve been hoping for? Maybe. But note what is different about this week. Now they demand that al-Maliki bring stability to Iraq, rather then accept that America should have given him a country that was stable in the first place.

  • The wheels are still on their buggy delusions. Or maybe they just can’t admit the truth. They lie even when they don’t have to, why would they suddenly become truthful. 🙂

It ain’t over till the Decider decides its over. Bush is just a wheeler, not a dealer.

  • The right is like the work horse Boxer in Animal Farm which I just re-read over the holidays. They don’t work or contribute as much as Boxer did, but they always say, no matter what happens to them, “Napoleon [the dictator boar] is always right.”

  • The wheels will remain on until they can label it a democratic Chevy instead of a republican Cadillac.

  • Oh—the wheels are, as Dale comments, still on the buggy.

It’s just that the buggy is hitched to a dead horse named “mission accomplished.”

I really, REALLY want to see how Bush explains that. I want to see how FOX explains it. I want to see how every pole-cat in the entire GOP explains it, too.

And I’m going to enjoy this rendition of payback to an immense degree—because there’s little else to do for the Republikanner Beast other than commit political self-immolation.

Speaking of which—where’s JohnBoy “I’ll-commit-suicide” McCain on this?

  • They’re staring a total meltdown of their world right in the face and the only way they can deal with it is simply not admit everything they’ve done is wrong and tragic until the last possible second.

  • Thanks to guys like the gloomy Republican operative for loosening all the lugnuts on the wheels in the first place.

  • …Some Bushies speculate the Hadley leak was a premeditated ploy to stiffen Maliki’s spine that backfired horribly…

I’ll go with that. Hadley is a friggin’ idiot, and if there’s one thing the Bushies know how to do, it’s make things backfire.

I think we’re wondering when they ever had wheels to fall off, but they’re talking about the wheels falling off the magic pumpkin that never had any wheels in the first place. No worries though, it can probably fly as long as we BELIEVE.

    Wheee.

  • So Bob Corker just said it’s premature to ask when will we get out of Iraq.

Isn’t this the party of no endless commitments and always an exit strategy. But some how now we can’t ask when we are leaving.

    Moron.

  • Definition of Corker: (dated slang) a remarkable or excellent thing or person; “that story was a corker”

hmmmmm…sure is dated. time to update it that slang along the lines of how “bad” now means good…

  • The wheels aren’t off yet, but the tires are going flat, the lugnuts are loose, and things are getting wobbly. I’m actually getting concerned that when they do come off, we may have a crisis on our hands. It all depends on when Barney gives up on George.
