Vacation, All I Ever Wanted

I can appreciate that everyone needs a break once in a while, but this is getting ridiculous.

This is Bush’s 33rd visit to his ranch since becoming president. He has spent all or part of 233 days on his Texas ranch since taking office, according to a tally by CBS News. Adding his 78 visits to Camp David and his five visits to Kennebunkport, Maine, Bush has spent all or part of 500 days in office at one of his three retreats, or more than 40 percent of his presidency.

As the New York Times’ Bob Herbert noted today, “Mr. President, there’s a war on. You might consider hopping a plane to Washington.”

If my count is right, today is the 1,177th day of Bush’s presidency. This means he’s spent one-fifth of his term in Crawford, where he apparently enjoys clearing brush, and 42% of his term at one of his many “retreats.”

I wonder how many working Americans would like to spend 42% of their time vacationing at a retreat.
