Visit a memorial, spark a protest, attend a fundraiser

Bush’s schedule for the day sounds eerily familiar. From the AP today:

Bush was to be among the first digging shovels of dirt at the groundbreaking for a new Sept. 11 memorial in East Meadow, N.Y., a Manhattan suburb on Long Island.

The quarrel over the ads was shadowing Bush, as at least two groups announced plans to protest his visit.

Afterward, the group of politicians were making the five-minute trip to Bush’s fund-raiser. Bush has raised more than $160 million for his re-election and shows no sign of slowing down as he approaches his stated goal of $170 million.

Almost exactly two months ago, CNN and MSNBC reported:

About 400 protesters lined the street across from the King Center in Atlanta as President Bush laid a wreath at the tomb of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to commemorate the 75th birthday of slain civil rights leader Thursday.

As Bush arrived, the crowd booed and chanted “Bush, go home!” He placed a wreath on King’s grave before heading to a $2,000-a-plate fund-raiser in Atlanta.

Visit a memorial, spark a protest, attend a fundraiser. Just another day for our “uniter, not divider” president.
