Everything appears to be back on track, at least for now. Obviously, I regret the inconvenience (and the spectacularly bad timing of the inconvenience).

I heard the evangelicals in Colorado say that they were taking a fast from politics, so perhaps someone decided that we should all follow suit. I can’t fast though, I am having a nervous breakdown waiting for the results. How silly is that?
We’re not really sure what the problem was, frankly (a process was running the database at max, and every time they’d be able to bring the site back up it would start up again).
Any mySQL &/or WordPress gurus out there??? Seriously, I don’t really know what I’m doing, and forget about Steve!

I don’t know if it was a coincidence or not but I could get through to Think Progress this afternoon either. I finally able to bring them up about the same time that you came back.
If there was a process that kept running every time you started up, the only thing I can think of (and this comes from quite limited experience, so take it with a grain of salt) is that your hosting company was doing some work on the server.
If they weren’t, then it was definitely a DoD attack. Have you contacted your hosting company to see if other sites on the server were having the same issues?
Other than that, good to see all is well — the site crashed right as I was leaving a comment.

I couldn’t get through to Think Progress either, and my browser is still having trouble with the “back” button after reading all the comments. No doubt the attack was by the same Brownshirts who removed all of my candidate poster from my lawn last night. 😉

My troubleshooting experience is limited to plugging error messages into Google, but I’ve found this to be pretty effective when it comes to MySQL errors. Give it a try or you can email me and I can see what I can come up with.
