Just a reminder, as of this morning, I’m blogging exclusively at the Washington Monthly’s Political Animal. See you there.

As for Carpetbagger content

And now, back to the news….

Comments

  • I’m going to miss this format.

Even if Kevin Drum is the one who introduced me to the Carpetbagger.

Also, you haven’t posted anything there yet. I know it’s earlier than usual, but I can’t seem to sleep… And you put your last post here this morning! Post something already! ^-^

  • I’m kinda floored at how melancholy this whole “move” thing has made my morning. How could a bunch of ones and zeros become so very comforting?

    Shit.

  • Soooo, on Tuesday I donated to the Carpetbagger Report and now it’s being shut down. Talk about a sharp stick in the eye. If the site was being shut down, why leave the “Click to Give” link out here?

  • says:

3reddogs – Eek! I clearly have dropped the ball in getting this site ready for the move, though Tuesday the news was not yet public. We will of course return your donation! (And I’ll make sure Steve does a better job of combing his inbox, which is more out of control than usual this week.)

  • Well, just to stir the pot a little more since we are talking about connections to felons. Besides John McCain’s felon buddies Charles Keating and Abramoff, it turns out the entire Cindy McCain fortune is based on a criminal enterprise.

The father of Cindy McCain, James Hensley, was convicted by a federal jury in U.S. District Court of Arizona in March 1948 on seven counts of filing false liquor records. Hensley also was charged with conspiracy to hide from federal authorities the names of persons involved in a liquor industry racket with two companies he managed, United Sales Company in Phoenix and United Distributors in Tucson.

The umbrella company, United Liquor, at that time held a monopoly in Arizona, organized and managed by Kemper Marley, who was accused of mob ties by a reporter who was murdered in 1977.

Let’s see an ad on that!

  • Ms. Carpetbagger,

I’ve just spent a few minutes at Washington Times … if there’s a way to transfer my donation to that site I’d be okay with that.

Many thanks for the speedy response … I no longer feel like there’s a stick in my eye 🙂

  • 3reddogs— I DO hope you meant Washington Monthly, not the Times… (The Washington Times is the right-wing propaganda masterpiece…)!

  • I’ve just spent a few minutes at Washington Times … if there’s a way to transfer my donation to that site I’d be okay with that. -3reddogs

That’s easy. Let Steve keep the donation you already made, silly. And get a subscription to the Washington Monthly.

  • I have been reading CBR for a couple of years, but never got around to commenting. I originally found this place through Washington Monthly (first blog I started reading, though I never comment there either), and CBR has probably become my favorite blog. It’s nice to see things come full circle…but, like a number of others, I prefer the layout of CBR to just about every blog I read.

Best of luck at the new place, I see you wasted no time in getting started over there!

  • I too will miss this site, primarily because of the layout. Steve’s writing will be enjoyed at the WM site, but their format is inferior.

Oh well, when Jebus shuts one door, he always opens another, even if it depressurizes the cabin.

  • > iucaffiend said:
    > I’ve been here since ought-three…*sigh*

Even the trolls will miss this old place.
And I’ve only really been around since mid-2006.

    Take care, y’all.
Be ready for the MASSIVE republican “counterstrike” against O.
What we’ve seen so far is… probably just a warmup.

Expect it. Understand that its ultimate purpose isn’t so much to take more votes
away from O (and down-ticket races)-
as it is to change the perception that O is electable/capable of winning.

Its cover for “why O lost” to distract from what will undoubtedly be major poll fraud.
    I really don’t doubt that O can and will get more votes than M;
but I worry very much, whether it’ll be enough to overcome the Diebold factor.

Don’t lose hope. Don’t let the damned trolls win.

    sincerely,

    damned troll #888

  • Hey, this is sad. My fav blog and format going somewhere new…? And what about our buddy commenters. Change…inevitable…devastating…no longer orange…

    ===============

Sorry, I’m not made of money … it was a $50 donation … another $30 for a subscription to Washington Monthly isn’t in my budget.

    Note to Castor Troy:

I did mean Washington Monthly … my browser would shut down in disgust if I went anywhere near the Washington Times.

  • Well, this is VERY depressing.

Both of my moblie devices are not loving the Washington Monthly format and IE completely puked on it. The Google ads wouldn’t load after three minutes and when I refreshed it, it said Done…with not a thing on the page.

I fear that Steve may not be in my future, for the frustration level with the WM site and format are pretty huge. What a tremendous loss for me.

Maybe in RSS or something. I AM BUMMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just want to confirm the point others have made, and emphasize what I said yesterday.

The format of the Carpetbagger is superior to that of any other blog I’ve come across. It is a breeze to read and comment here. I’ve been to WM, and it simply doesn’t compare, so I hope they will improve things over there. MsJoanne #21, don’t give up, pound the table, throw a fit, sob uncontrollably over there until they agree to upgrade their shoddy format. We certainly don’t want to lose any regulars. Sic Lucy from Peanuts to nag them to death if you have to.

  • See everyone over at the new place! And MsJoanne, I hope you can get your technical problems fixed.

For the last time, the the color is orange…

  • The new site isn’t all that bad so far, but for the love of God, Steve, if you can get them to do just one thing in honor of your arrival, make them increase the font size. If they could just to that much it would improve the appeal of the site by an order of magnitude. Thanks!!!!! 🙂

  • Thanks, MsC.

I am on a client computer. My firefox at the hotel worked but when I am en route or on a different machine, I have little control.

I’m going to do the RSS, but will seriously miss all the great comments (and my own participation!!)

    Thanks, again!!

  • Black on white, double-spaced, (relatively) few trolls, and the best commentary/readers in the blog world (and what a damned shame that Ed won’t be coming to train the new lot of responders by example, like he did us, eh?).
    What’s to fear losing?

  • CPB is the first blog I click on to compare all others to Steve’s info. Bummer. I hate change.
Obama 08! So who said it’s easy?

  • Hope you like the new digs and good luck with the move. I’m sure than many of us will consider that worth a twitch of the index finger.

Btw, I a new post up, my first one in 3-4 days. If you’re blindly Democratic, you may not want to read what I have to say but someone has to.

My laptop’s still fucked, btw, and I haven’t any hope of being up and running before even the GOP convention. I lost all my files and even my programs. So I dunno when I’ll be able to post again.

  • Ahhhhhhhhh!!!! I was hoping that was some sort of sick joke. Yet here I am, finally getting my Carpetbagger fix after a busy day and…it’s gone. All gone. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!

I hate change!!!!! If you never hear from me again, you’ll know why.

  • to the people who lament the different format at the Washington Monthly…. If I understand it correctly, Steve mentioned that they are in the process of completely revamping the site. Maybe before the election arrives, we’ll see a more user friendly format. 🙂

  • Mrs Carpetbagger should change the ‘color’ ORANGE to BLUE, to represent all the commenters who are feeling the blues 🙂

  • Did everyone hear that Obama has a half brother that lives in poverty? He’s met him as recently as 2006 and has done nothing to help a “blood” relative out of poverty… how can he say he will help poor Americans? You libbies need to get a grip and realize that he is nothing more than a talker, but “can’t walk the walk.”

  • says:

It comes full circle. I first heard about Carpetbagger a couple of years ago through Political Animal, and those two (with Talking Points) have been among my three indispensable blogs every since.

  • I’ll have to wait & see whether this move is OK.
I am not sure that I like this trend toward consolidation of the great minds. Glen goes to salon, EW gjoins FDL, SB to WM…

What next? Markos assimilated by swampland?

  • one more thing…

What about the Official McCain Flip – Flop List?
    Will it be maintained?
This could turn into a full time job for someone. Might even need a staff.

  • Congratulations on the move, Steve, to a forum with a wider audience. I’m glad you are still around. But I will miss my daily dose of The Carpetbagger Report. In addition to your writing, the comments by readers here are among the best in the blog world. Best wishes!

  • I am going to miss What color is an orange? (anti-spam measure; required)
    LOL
Thanks for an incredible run and good luck

    see you there
