What was that about Palm Beach voters being too stupid?

Ordinarily, I’m content pretending [tag]Ann Coulter[/tag] doesn’t exist, but one item jumped out at me that I considered too entertaining to ignore.

Coulter, you may recall, ridiculed voters in Palm Beach, Fla., after the 2000 presidential election, when thousands of votes were miscast due to the infamous “butterfly ballot.” Coulter suggested those who are too stupid to vote properly shouldn’t count anyway.

Coulter may want to rethink that whole approach.

[tag]Palm Beach County[/tag]’s elections supervisor has given Universal Press Syndicate columnist Ann Coulter 30 days to explain why she voted in the [tag]wrong precinct[/tag], according to a Wednesday piece by Palm Beach Post columnist [tag]Jose Lambiet[/tag].

Lambiet had first reported on Coulter’s Florida voting problems last month. In his Wednesday follow-up, Lambiet wrote: “This time, claiming she doesn’t even live here — as GOP pundit Ann Coulter has been doing on this spring’s college speaking tour when she’s questioned about her February election meltdown on Palm Beach — isn’t going to cut it. …”

The Lambiet piece continued: “In a registered letter scheduled to be sent to her this week, Coulter is asked to ‘clarify certain information as to her legal residence,’ elections boss Arthur Anderson said. ‘We want to give her a chance,’ Anderson said. ‘She needs to tell us where she really lives.’ Or else? He could refer the case to State Attorney Barry Krischer for criminal charges, Anderson said.”

Lambiet cited an official incident report from a poll worker who found Coulter trying to vote in two precincts on the same day, in the same election. As for the possible legal penalties, Lambiet noted that it is a third-degree felony to vote knowingly in the wrong precinct. What’s more, lying on a voter’s registration can cost up to $5,000 and five years in jail.

For that matter, as August J. Pollak noted, Coulter has now been suspected of voter fraud twice.

Schadenfreude was made for times like this….

As if it matters…. just ask Rush what he thinks of drug addicts.

  • No one alive deserves more such redicule than Ann Coulter. I hope they end up pressing charges.

I mean, are all Republicanites crooks?

  • You know, I bet there are some great “respect the rule of law” quotes in her Clinton books. I certainly don’t own them and will never own them, but if someone did, you could probably find some good stuff in there on violating even technicalities threaten liberty and life on the planet earth

  • “I mean, are all Republicanites crooks?”

Someone over a DailyKos had a sig that said: Not all Republicans are con men, but all con men are Republicans. Sounds about right to me.

I try not to take pleasure in the misfortunes of other people, but there is a special pleasure in seeing an arrogant loudmouth like Coulter shoot herself in the foot.

  • I absolutely detest Ann Coulter, but saying she tried to vote in two precincts on the same day in the same election creates a misleading impression that she wanted to cast 2 votes. From reading the link, she tried to vote in the correct precinct at first, was told she wasn’t registered there, and then went to vote in the precinct where she was improperly registered. Two attempts to vote; but not an attempt to vote twice.

That said, it’s great to see her catch grief over this –

  • I have long been of the opinion that Ann Coulter is not nearly as moral or as smart as she would have the drones who listen to her believe. This is more evidence to prove I am right. Of course, drones being drones, they would likely believe her (lame) excuses.

  • As to the Bimbette of Belsen not being as moral or as smart as she would have people believe, there are some really credible stories about her sexual escapades that certainly don’t coincide with her “image.” But then “do as I say, not as I do” has been a Republican mantra for a long, long time.

  • From which paper mill did Ann buy her law degree, or did she get it in a box of “Cracker” Jacks?

For any Republicans left out there, that is humor.

    LOL

  • Lambiet cited an official incident report from a poll worker who found Coulter trying to vote in two precincts on the same day, in the same election.

I don’t know about Schadenfreude, but I think a little PROJECTION is perfectly applicable here. I’ve never understood the GOP postition re voting problems. Whereas Democrats talk about vote counting and disenfranchisement issues Republicans always seem to belittle the importance of them and instead concentrate their attention on voter fraud like it’s a huge problem and issue. I’ve never figured out why until now – because it totally fits in the right wing penchant for projection. Are they all guilty of voter fraud too?

  • Not quite sure what te problem is here? She voted once. One person one vote. You people need to get a life.
