Why Laura Bush is more informed about current events than her husband

George W. Bush, in a Fox News interview on Sept. 22, 2003:

“I glance at the headlines, just to get kind of a flavor. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who probably read the news themselves…. [T]he best way to get the news is from objective sources. And the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what’s happening in the world.”

Laura Bush, in a New York Times interview published over the weekend:

“[The president] does read the papers, of course,” Mrs. Bush said, adding that she and her husband make their way through five national newspapers over coffee in bed and then at the breakfast table each day. “I mean we’ve read the newspapers for years. It’s our morning ritual, since the day we married.”

I wonder if Laura realizes her hubby probably doesn’t get past the sports and comics pages.
